Orphaned children and lonely elders in Kenya

Two Generations.One Family.Wisdom Shared.Futures Built.

Hands 4Life brings orphaned children and lonely elders in Kenya together as one family and helps them become financially independent, through education, skills and a real part in their local economy.

From belonging to financial independence

Hands 4Life helps orphaned children and lonely elders find family, love, and a place to belong.

Your gift helps educate children, care for older adults, and strengthen families in Kenya. We work alongside local leaders to provide the knowledge and resources their communities need to thrive.

What Our Champions Help Make Possible

  1. Step 1

    Belonging and care

Orphaned children and lonely elders become one family. Elders guide the children, and the children help care for the elders.

  2. Step 2

    Education

Children stay in school, and elders pass on what they know.

  3. Step 3

    Skills and growth

Young people and adults, including the sandwich generation caring for both children and aging parents, will learn farming, trades, and business skills. Elders will share their knowledge and experience.

  4. Step 4

    Financial independence

They will start small businesses, earn their own income and take a real part in the local economy.

  5. The goal

    Shared prosperity

Our goal is to make Homa Bay County a model for economic growth across Kenya. Students will come to learn, then return home with the skills and knowledge to help their own communities prosper.

The challenge

  • Orphans and vulnerable children without family care

    • No stable adult to care for them each day
    • A higher risk of dropping out of school
    • More exposed to exploitation and harm
  • Older persons living alone

    • Social isolation, poverty and unmet health needs
    • Loss of a role and daily purpose
  • Few ways to earn a living

    • A lack of skills, capital and opportunity to earn an income
    • Little local work, so young people leave to find it
  • Knowledge lost between generations

    • Elders with farm and craft skills and no one to teach
    • Children growing up without guidance

Our approach

  1. Direct support for both groups

Monthly sponsors pay for food, clean water, school and healthcare for children and elders, so support does not stop and start.

  2. Brought together as one family

Elders pass on wisdom, skills and traditions. Children help care for the elders, with company, joy and purpose.

  3. Training that leads to income

Students will receive Hands 4Life business training and ongoing mentorship, with three years of guidance as they start and grow their businesses toward financial independence.

  4. Locally led

Our Hands 4Life Kenya Director, Pastor Yusuf Odhiambo, works alongside our Kenya team and local churches to lead programs that meet the needs of their communities.

  5. Faith-based, open to all

Everyone is welcome at Hands 4Life, regardless of their faith or beliefs. Our programs follow a Christian curriculum that teaches biblical values and encourages a healthy way of life.

  6. A planned campus to grow the work

Our vision begins with the Generations of Wisdom Academy in Kenya, expands into a Micro-Campus, and ultimately grows into the full Generations of Wisdom Campus, bringing education, church, farming, and business training together to serve the community.
